American rapper Kendrick Lamar’s halftime performance at this year’s Super Bowl has become the most popular in the show’s history. It was watched by 133.5 million people – the rapper broke Michael Jackson’s 32-year-old record.
This was reported by Billboard.
The Super Bowl is the final game of the season in professional American football and the most popular television event of the year in the United States. Companies spend millions of dollars on advertising during the match, and politicians seek to promote their campaigns now. During the halftime show, celebrities perform – this year’s headliner was Lamar.
Lamar’s performance was watched by 133.5 million people, more than the final match, which garnered 126 million.
The song “Not Like Us” is known as one of Lamar’s diss tracks against rapper Drake. Drake sued Lamar over the song, claiming that it was defamatory.
On social media, Lamar’s performance was called a “crushing blow” to Drake, and he was called “the most professional hater.” At the end of the performance, the entire stadium chorused the word minor, which in the context of the song means Drake’s accusation of sexual relations with minors.
The appearance of athlete Serena Williams at the performance was also not a coincidence; the tennis player is Drake’s ex.
The number of streams of the song “Not Like Us” on Spotify increased by 430% within three hours of the Super Bowl performance, The Independent reports. Listening to nine other tracks Lamar performed during the Super Bowl final also increased: “Humble” – 300%, ‘Man at the Garden”- 260%, and “All the Stars”- 290%.
At this year’s Super Bowl, the Philadelphia Eagles defeated the Kansas City Chiefs with a score of 40:22.
