Internet users from Denmark have launched a joke petition to buy the US state of California. They want to “bring the hygge to Hollywood”.

This publication is the Danes’ response to US President Donald Trump’s desire to establish control over Greenland, which is part of the Kingdom of Denmark. He declared his ambitions during his first term in the White House.
“Have you ever looked at a map and thought: “You know what Denmark needs? More sunshine, palm trees, and roller skating.” Well, we have a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to turn that dream into reality,” the petition reads.
As of the morning of February 12, the petition has collected more than 200,000 online signatures. It is not known how long the vote collection will last.
“It is in the national interest to promote our nation’s extraordinary heritage so California will become New Denmark. Los Angeles? More like Løs Ångeles,” the authors of the appeal added.
Although Løs Ångeles is a joke, a city in southern California is known as the “Danish capital of America” – Solvang. It was founded in 1911 by three immigrants from Denmark. In honor of the famous writer, the petition initiators want to rename Disneyland to Hans Christian Andersenland.
However, at the bottom of the petition is an inscription in small print: “Disclaimer: This campaign is 100% real… in our dreams”.
