Anna Wintour is leaving her position as editor-in-chief of American Vogue after nearly 40 years. This was reported by Business Of Fashion.
The 75-year-old Wintour has begun the search for a new “head of editorial content.” It is expected that the head of this department will report to Anna Wintour, who will continue as global editor-in-chief of Vogue and content director of the parent company, Condé Nast.
The position of “Head of editorial content” has recently been introduced in all international editions of Vogue — it will now also appear in the American magazine. This is not equivalent to the position of editor-in-chief. Thus, the new editor will not replace Anna Wintour but will perform the functions of a manager, reporting to Wintour at the same time.
American Vogue’s editor-in-chief, Anna Wintour, was appointed in 1988. In 2020, she became global content director at Condé Nast. The position was created specifically for Wintour — she oversees all international editions of Vogue. She is also responsible for the content of all the publishing house’s brands worldwide.
Anna Wintour’s departure from her leadership position at Vogue is part of a broader global restructuring of the company. It also ushers in a new era for the publication, creating an opportunity for new leadership and a potential rethinking of its direction. In 2022, Chioma Nnadi became the first black woman to head British Vogue.
