The Metropolitan Museum of Art has released the first details of the most anticipated fashion event – the Met Gala. We tell you everything that is known so far.
Vogue has announced the theme of the next exhibition of the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute – Costume Art. This is a direction in which clothing appears as an expressive artistic tool. The costume becomes a language capable of conveying character, fantasy, and inner rhythm. The theme suggests exploring how the body “talks” to clothing and how fashion reflects the movement of human emotions and social changes.
The chosen theme is not accidental: it aims to unite the exhibition and the new Condé Nast space into an area of over 1,100 square meters. The exhibition will present about 200 items of clothing and accessories, as well as almost 200 works of art.
Curator Andrew Bolton says it is the department’s biggest overhaul in years and a major step toward recognizing fashion as an art form. The exhibition will open on May 10, 2026, and will run through January 2027.
This year’s Met Gala will be co-sponsored by Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sanchez. They will also be joined by Saint Laurent and Condé Nast as secondary partners.
The names of the co-chairs are still being kept secret. One thing is clear: Anna Wintour will once again assemble a star-studded team of artists, designers, directors, and musicians.
The 2026 Met Gala will take place as usual on May 4, the first Monday of the month.
