The Metropolitan Museum of Art has announced the theme of its spring 2027 exhibition. This time, the Costume Institute exhibition will be dedicated to British designer John Galliano. His work will likely also be the main source of inspiration for the Met Gala 2027.
According to Vogue, the exhibition is called John Galliano: Horizons and will open in the spring. It will feature the most famous images, sketches, and archival materials from almost four decades of the fashion designer’s career – from his graduation collection Les Incroyables, presented in 1984, to work at fashion houses Givenchy, Dior, and Maison Margiela.
A separate section of the exhibition will be dedicated to a difficult period in Galliano’s life – the scandal of 2011, after which he left Dior due to anti-Semitic statements, as well as his return to the world of high fashion.
By the way, John Galliano will become only the third living designer to whom the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute will dedicate a solo monographic exhibition. Before him, only Yves Saint Laurent and Rei Kawakubo were honored with such an honor.
At the same time, the organizers have not yet revealed the official theme and dress code of the Met Gala 2027. However, the Costume Institute’s spring exhibition traditionally defines the concept of the charity ball.
