Leonardo da Vinci’s Mona Lisa, now part of the collection of the Louvre Museum in Paris, will be moved to a separate room nearby.
This was stated by French President Emmanuel Macron, reports BFMTV.
The painting is to be moved to one of the Louvre’s interior areas, the Carré courtyard. It will have a separate entrance and ticket from the Louvre, which will help relieve the flow of visitors to the museum. According to the French president, this aligns with what the Mona Lisa deserves. However, he did not name any deadlines for the announced changes.
Macron also said the Louvre would be restored and expanded, including a “new grand entrance.” According to him, the French Ministry of Culture will invest €10 million in research before the work. These costs have already been taken into account in the current state budget.
The French president wants to raise the price of entrance tickets to the Louvre for foreigners from countries outside the European Union starting in 2026.
