On May 5, New York City will once again become the most fashionable place on the planet – the annual Met Gala will take place. This year’s theme, Superfine: Tailoring Black Style, explores the influence of the style of black men of the 18th century on modern fashion. The organizers were inspired by Monica Miller’s book Slaves to Fashion: Black Dandyism and the Style of Identity in the Black Diaspora.
While the stars carefully prepared their spectacular outfits, one of the most famous Met Gala attendees, Naomi Campbell, made a loud statement. In a new episode of her YouTube show Being Naomi, the 54-year-old supermodel shared that she will no longer participate in the event. The video, filmed during last year’s ball, was a kind of farewell to the event.
“This is my last Met Gala. I can’t do it anymore… I feel too old for it. It causes too much excitement,” Campbell said in a blog post.
The model admitted that she has attended the ball more than 20 times but is now ready to say goodbye to this tradition.
