The organizers of New York Fashion Week (CFDA) have announced that they will no longer support the use of natural fur from 2026. This means that fur will not appear in the official NYFW program, website, social media, or Fashion Calendar.
The Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) explained that fur is rarely used at shows anyway. But the organization wants to support designers who strive to create fashion without harming animals. CFDA also noted that many buyers are moving away from fur, and American fashion should follow this trend.
The decision comes after several years of collaboration between the CFDA and animal welfare organizations. New York Fashion Week thus follows London Fashion Week’s move to ban fur promotion as early as 2023.
Similar changes are taking place in the media. Earlier this year, media company Condé Nast (owner of Vogue, Vanity Fair, Glamour) stopped using fur in its materials and advertising. ELLE and InStyle magazines have already introduced the same rules.
