Yesterday, a wedding in Britain united two of the oldest aristocratic families. Lady Violet Manners, the eldest of the five children of the 11th Duke of Rutland, got married. Her chosen one was Viscount Garnock William James Lindsay-Betoun. The wedding ceremony occurred in the magnificent Belvoir Castle, the ancestral home of the Dukes of Rutland, whose towers and gardens provided a magnificent backdrop for the wedding day.
The bride walked down the aisle in a customized Phillipa Lepley dress with lantern sleeves and an elegant transparent insert. The look was complemented by a long veil. The highlight was the Rutland diamond tiara, which has been in the Violet family since the 18th century. The last member of the family to wear it was Lady Teresa Manners on her wedding day in 1997.
Her husband, of Scottish descent, wore a kilt made from the Lindsay family tartan.
It should be noted that 31-year-old Violet is one of the three “socialite sisters of Great Britain,” as they are called by Tatler magazine. And 34-year-old Garnock is the son of the 16th Earl of Lindsay, also known as Viscount Garnock. As for the newlyweds’ activities, Lady Violet founded HeritageXplore, a digital platform that facilitates access to independent state and historic houses in Great Britain. Lord Garnock graduated from the University of Alabama in 2014. He worked in the beverage industry in the US for several years before returning to his family home, Lahill House in Fife, and launching the Feragaia brand of non-alcoholic botanical drinks.
