Next week, Venice will become the epicenter of one of the most anticipated events of the year — the wedding of 61-year-old American billionaire Jeff Bezos and his bride, 55-year-old journalist Lauren Sanchez.
Rumors about the scale of the celebration have been circulating for a long time. It promises to be grand — Bezos literally “rented” Venice for his event.
According to the Daily Mail, the celebrations will begin on June 26 and last for two days. Several other interesting details have also emerged: the celebrations will take place on the $500 million mega-yacht Koru, which will be moored near the island of San Giorgio Maggiore, opposite St. Mark’s Square. Given this, the island will be closed to visitors for several days.
About 200 celebrity guests are expected to attend the wedding, for whom Bezos has booked the five most elite hotels in Venice — Aman Canal Grand Hotel, Danieli, Belmond Cipriani, Gritti Palace, and St. Regis, where one night costs at least $2,000.
Bezos has also reserved one of Venice’s most iconic buildings — the former Scuola Grande della Misericordia (a Renaissance-era building that will serve as the central venue for the celebrations) — and the Church of St. George, where the wedding ceremony will take place.
