OpenAI launches the cheapest ChatGPT subscription and begins testing ads

Apple withdraws from negotiations on investment in OpenAI

OpenAI has announced the global launch of its new ChatGPT Go plan and the start of testing an advertising model. This is a radical change in the company’s strategy, which previously relied exclusively on paid subscriptions and Microsoft’s investment.

The new ChatGPT Go plan for $8 is aimed at users who are not satisfied with the free version but are not ready to pay $20 per month for the Plus version, and even less so $200 for Pro.

Key benefits of ChatGPT Go:

  • Access to GPT-5.2 Instant: A new fast model with expanded limits.
  • 10x more queries: Compared to the free plan, Go users can send 10x as many messages, upload 10x as many files, and generate 10x as many images.
  • Increased memory: The chatbot better remembers the context of past conversations, allowing it to personalize responses.

In the coming weeks, OpenAI will begin testing advertising in the US for adult users of the free and Go plans. Sponsored blocks will not be placed in the answer text itself, but in a separate labeled block below it.

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman assured that advertising will not affect the AI’s objectivity. The more expensive plans — Plus ($20), Pro ($200), Business, and Enterprise — will remain completely ad-free.
