Qantas to launch world's longest non-stop flight

Australian airline Qantas has announced that it plans to launch a direct flight between Sydney and London in October 2027, which will become the world’s longest commercial flight, Fox News reports.

The expected flight duration is up to 22 hours without a single stop. The new route will be part of the large-scale Project Sunrise, which aims to connect the east coast of Australia to the world’s largest cities with direct flights.

For such flights, Qantas will use specially modified Airbus A350-1000ULR aircraft.

  • The flight range is more than 16,000 km;
  • an additional fuel tank of 20,000 liters;
  • 238 passengers in four classes of service.

The company says the new service will cut travel time between Sydney and London by around 4 hours compared to current connecting routes.

Tickets are expected to go on sale in February 2027, with the first flights beginning in the autumn of the same year.
