Ryan Gosling will join the Marvel Cinematic Universe and play the lead character in the new film “Ghost Rider”. The premiere of the film is scheduled for 2028. The actor’s participation was announced during the Marvel Studios presentation at Comic-Con in San Diego.
Before the announcement, studio president Kevin Feige noted that he was often asked when Gosling would finally appear in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. After that, the lights were turned off in the hall, and a few seconds later the actor took the stage to the applause of the audience.
Previously, the actor had expressed his desire to play Ghost Rider. In March, he confirmed that he was in talks with Marvel.
It is worth noting that Ghost Rider is a supernatural alter ego of stunt motorcycle rider Johnny Blaze. According to the comic book plot, the hero makes a deal with the villain Mephisto to save his adoptive father. As a result, Blaze becomes connected to Zarathos, the Spirit of Vengeance, and gains superhuman abilities.
The upcoming film will be the third feature film about the character. In the 2007 film “Ghost Rider” and its 2011 sequel “Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance”, Johnny Blaze was played by Nicolas Cage.
The new project will be directed by Sean Levy, known for the Marvel film “Deadpool and Wolverine”. Gosling called him the only director he sees at the helm of the new film adaptation.
