Director and actress Maggie Gyllenhaal has made a short film called Flesh Impact, dedicated to the legendary Marilyn Monroe.
The 17-minute film will be one of the premieres of the 83rd Venice Film Festival, which will be held in September, Vanity Fair reports.
The new work of 48-year-old Gyllenhaal is not a traditional biography. It is an artistic fantasy about what the life of the iconic Hollywood star could have been like if she had not died so early. With her film, the director offered the audience an alternative view of Monroe’s fate, reflecting not only on her career, but also on what could have awaited the actress in adulthood.
The image of young Marilyn at the peak of her fame was embodied by Dakota Johnson. The older version of the film diva was played by 93-year-old Ellen Burstyn, who was once personally acquainted with Monroe.
According to the director, Flesh Impact is a story about all actresses who live under the constant attention of the public and about the price they have to pay for fame.
