Ryanair, a low-cost airline from Ireland, has been updating its hand luggage rules since May. The main change is the introduction of a fine of up to 70 euros for non-compliance with baggage rules. These changes will affect almost 200 million passengers a year.
Only one small bag or backpack (up to 40×20×25 cm) will be allowed into the cabin free of charge, which must fit under the seat. This size remains unchanged, but what is changing is that failure to comply with this rule will result in a fine of up to 70 euros.
You must purchase an additional baggage allowance for extra-large hand luggage (up to 55×40×20 cm). Large suitcases must be checked in and transported in the aircraft’s baggage compartment.
Ryanair is also switching to digital boarding passes this year. Starting November 2025, passengers must check in via the Ryanair app or download a boarding pass with a QR code from the official website.
