His family confirmed the news, stating that Neill departed life surrounded by his loved ones, maintaining the dignity he exhibited throughout his life. Relatives noted that his death came unexpectedly.
After completing filming for ‘Jurassic World: Dominion’ in 2022, Neill revealed that he had been diagnosed with Stage III angioimmunoblastic T-cell lymphoma, a rare form of blood cancer, necessitating ongoing chemotherapy. However, in April 2026, he announced that he was in remission with no signs of the disease.
Born in Northern Ireland, Sam Neill moved with his family to New Zealand at the age of seven, where he began his cinematic career and emerged as a pioneer of the contemporary New Zealand film industry. He first gained recognition with the film ‘Sleeping Dogs’ (1977), and international acclaim followed with ‘My Brilliant Career’ (1979). His extensive work encompassed roles in ‘The Final Conflict,’ ‘Possession,’ ‘The Hunt for Red October,’ ‘The Jungle Book,’ ‘Event Horizon,’ as well as appearing in series like ‘The Tudors’ and ‘Merlin.’
