Sony Interactive Entertainment has announced that it will stop producing physical discs for all new games released on PlayStation consoles starting in January 2028. After that, new releases will only be available in digital format.
The company clarified that the decision does not apply to games that have already been released or will be released on discs before January 2028. Such editions will remain available in the usual format.
Starting in January 2028, new games will only be available digitally – through the PlayStation Store or digital stores of retailers.
Sony Interactive Entertainment explained that this decision is due to changing user preferences and the general trend in the entertainment market and emphasized that they will continue to develop digital services and work to ensure that users can independently choose where to buy new games.
