Forbes magazine has named the richest celebrities today. American director and producer Steven Spielberg topped the list, with an estimated net worth of $5.3 billion. According to the publication, 78-year-old Spielberg earned his fortune thanks to the films Jaws, Jurassic Park, Indiana Jones, and others.
“In addition to the income from filming, Spielberg has agreed to receive 2% of ticket sales at Universal theme parks in perpetuity,” the publication says.
Interestingly, the director first appeared on the Forbes list in 1994 and has not left it since.
Another director, George Lucas, the creator of the Star Wars saga, took second place in the ranking of the richest. This year, his net worth is $5.1 billion. Forbes explains that the director has not received direct income from new films since 2012, after Disney sold his company, LucasFilm.
The legendary basketball player Michael Jordan closed the top three richest celebrities. The 62-year-old athlete’s net worth is $3.5 billion. It is noted that Jordan received the bulk of his income from cooperation with various brands.
American TV presenter Oprah Winfrey was also mentioned in the ranking – with a fortune of $3 billion, she was given the fourth place.
Vince McMahon, the owner of WWE (American wrestling promotion), also took fifth place with $3 billion.
