According to preliminary official data, the Swiss economy grew by 0.4% in the fourth quarter of 2024 compared to the previous quarter. In the third quarter, growth was 0.2%, and analysts polled by Bloomberg had expected an acceleration to 0.3%.
In 2024, Switzerland’s GDP grew by 0.8% after rising by 1.2% a year earlier.
“The industrial sector recorded moderate growth, mainly driven by the chemical and pharmaceutical industries,” the Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO) said in a statement. “Growth in the services sector was below average by historical standards.”
The final estimate of GDP growth for the fourth quarter with expanded data will be published on February 27.
