Actress Sydney Sweeney announced the founding of her own production company, Honey Trap. Partnering in the venture is Kailey McGregor, who will serve as President of Production and Development. The company will operate under a first-look agreement with Sony Pictures, with whom Sweeney already shares a successful collaboration history. Notably, she starred in and executive-produced the romantic comedy ‘Love You to Hate Me,’ which grossed over $210 million at the global box office.
Currently, Sweeney is working with Sony on a new adaptation of ‘Barbarella,’ based on the French comic series by Jean-Claude Forest.
Honey Trap’s mission is to produce daring cinematic films and series that juxtapose controversial concepts, provoke discussions, and leave a lasting emotional impact. The company aims to support directors with unique creative visions, develop intricate characters, and craft stories that surpass audience expectations while being accessible to a broad audience.
According to Deadline, Sweeney’s next step may include her directorial debut in collaboration with Sony.
Among the actress’s recent accomplishments is the adaptation of the bestseller ‘The Maid’ by Lionsgate, where she served as an executive producer and starred alongside Amanda Seyfried. The film grossed nearly $400 million in global box office revenue. Plans are also in place for a sequel, ‘The Maid’s Mystery,’ featuring Sweeney together with Kirsten Dunst.
