Teenagers won't be able to live stream on Instagram without parental permission

Meta is introducing new safety rules for teens on Instagram, Facebook, and Messenger. From now on, children under 16 will not be able to broadcast live without parental permission.

This is stated in the Meta blog.

Teenagers will also need parental permission to disable the blurring function of suspected nude images they receive in private messages. Now, the “teen account” system will work on Instagram, Facebook, and Messenger. It is automatically activated for users under the age of 18. Here’s what the system allows parents to do

  • set daily limits on social media use;
  • block access to social networks at certain times
  • see who their child is chatting with.

The update will first launch in the US, UK, Australia, and Canada. Teenagers under 16 can also change their settings only with parental permission.

Meta says more than 54 million people under 18 use teenagers’ Instagram accounts.
