The annual Met Gala benefit ball, one of the most famous events in the world of fashion, has begun at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.
This year’s dress code for the event is formulated as “Fashion is Art”, which corresponds to the theme of the Costume Institute’s Costume Art exhibition, which is part of the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Organizers invited participants to “express their own attitude to fashion as an embodied art form.”
According to the Metropolitan Museum of Art, this year’s event raised a record $42 million for the Costume Institute, surpassing the previous record of $31 million.
Among the co-chairs of the event are tennis player Venus Williams, actress Nicole Kidman, singer Beyoncé, and Vogue magazine editor-in-chief Anna Wintour.
The event traditionally gathered about 400 guests dressed in accordance with the announced theme.
