The Oscar ceremony may be canceled due to fires in the USA

Oscar nominations announcement postponed in the US due to wildfires in California

The Oscar ceremony, considered to be the main film award in the United States, may be canceled for the first time in history due to severe fires in California. A number of local media outlets, including The Sun newspaper, citing a source, reported this.

“For the first time in its 96-year history, the Oscars are on the verge of being canceled due to the deadly wildfires that have devastated Los Angeles. The official award committees, headed by stars such as Tom Hanks, Meryl Streep, Steven Spielberg, and Emma Stone, monitor the situation daily. The board’s main task now is not to look like they are celebrating while many Los Angeles residents are experiencing incredible losses,” the statement said.

It is also noted that when the situation stabilizes, the city will still need time to recover, so the film award management is considering supporting the victims and raising funds to provide assistance.

As a reminder, wildfires have been raging on the outskirts of Los Angeles since January 7. Their area has already reached 16,000 hectares. The fire has destroyed more than 13,000 buildings, including the homes of famous actors in prestigious neighborhoods. According to recent reports, Paris Hilton, Anthony Hopkins, Leighton Meester, and others have lost their homes.
