Social network Threads, a competitor of the X platform, has started testing advertising with selected brands in the US and Japan. TechCrunch reports that it will collect user feedback before expanding the experiment to other markets.
Ads will be labeled “Sponsored” when they appear in the feed. Users will also be able to manage ad topics and report ads.
Meta Corporation launched Threads in 2023 and initially focused on growing the number of users. As of December 2024, Threads had 100 million active users. Meta wants to start taking advantage of Threads’ growth by experimenting with new advertising.
