Illumination, the studio renowned for creating franchises such as “Despicable Me” and “The Super Mario Bros. Movie,” has announced its latest animated feature, “Not Alone.” The lead roles have been awarded to Timothée Chalamet and Selena Gomez.
This marks Chalamet’s debut in animation voice acting. He will portray Joe, a rocket mechanic leading a solitary life. At the same time, Selena Gomez voices Fran, a botanist and developer of the first plant-fueled rocket.
In the story, Joe and Fran collaborate on the launch of her innovative rocket. Still, their partnership faces challenges when three alien refugees unexpectedly appear seeking shelter with Joe. The aliens, voiced by Rob Brydon, Diane Morgan, and Jamie Demetriou, are fleeing Officer Zandro (voiced by Brett Goldstein) and plan to use Fran’s rocket to return home safely.
The cast also includes Allison Janney and Lamorne Morris. Directors Eric Guillon, Claire Dodgson, and Jonathan Del Val, who have notable experience with franchises like “Despicable Me,” “Minions,” and “The Secret Life of Pets,” are leading the project. The film is scheduled for release on April 16, 2027.
