In February 2025, the number of new car registrations in the European Union decreased by 3.4% year-on-year to 853,670 units, according to Ukravtoprom, citing data from the European Automobile Manufacturers Association (ACEA).
In particular, the largest EU markets saw a drop:
- Italy (-6%),
- Germany (-4.6%),
- France (-3.3%).
Only such car market segments as electric vehicles (BEVs) and hybrids (HEVs) showed positive dynamics. Moreover, hybrids (HEVs) accounted for the largest share of the new passenger car market – 35.2%.
Registration of new cars in the EU by power source:
- Hybrids (HEV) – 304,062 units (+19%);
- Gasoline cars – 244,073 (-22%);
- Electric vehicles (BEV) – 131,275 units (+24%);
- Diesel – 80,569 (-29%);
- Plug-in hybrids – 63,570 (-1%);
- Others – 30,121 (-0%).
The new passenger car market in the EU decreased by 3% to 1,685,640 units in the first two months of 2025.
