Demand for new cars has decreased in the European Union

Tesla shares showed the largest growth in November on the stock market

In February 2025, the number of new car registrations in the European Union decreased by 3.4% year-on-year to 853,670 units, according to Ukravtoprom, citing data from the European Automobile Manufacturers Association (ACEA).

In particular, the largest EU markets saw a drop:

  1. Italy (-6%),
  2. Germany (-4.6%),
  3. France (-3.3%).

Only such car market segments as electric vehicles (BEVs) and hybrids (HEVs) showed positive dynamics. Moreover, hybrids (HEVs) accounted for the largest share of the new passenger car market – 35.2%.

Registration of new cars in the EU by power source:

  1. Hybrids (HEV) – 304,062 units (+19%);
  2. Gasoline cars – 244,073 (-22%);
  3. Electric vehicles (BEV) – 131,275 units (+24%);
  4. Diesel – 80,569 (-29%);
  5. Plug-in hybrids – 63,570 (-1%);
  6. Others – 30,121 (-0%).

The new passenger car market in the EU decreased by 3% to 1,685,640 units in the first two months of 2025.
