Fast food has begun to adapt to the “Ozempic reality”

The Economist has updated its Big Mac Index

Fast food chains are adapting to customers using appetite-suppressing medications like Ozempic. Many customers are losing weight, eating less, and choosing less sweets.

McDonald’s is testing a menu specifically for these customers. The focus is on meals with more protein and fewer calories, often using lettuce instead of buns.

As GLP-1 medication use rises in the U.S., around 10% of the population takes these drugs, leading to smaller portions.

Other brands, like General Mills and Conagra, are also offering smaller portion sizes. Conagra labels some Healthy Choice meals as “GLP-1 Friendly.”

In December, Shake Shack launched a “Fitness Menu” featuring high-protein, gluten-free, and vegetarian options, including lettuce-wrapped burgers.
