In the new BBC documentary “Jared Leto: Hollywood’s Dark Secret,” four women accused the musician of sexual harassment. In total, ten women spoke about their relationships with Jared Leto in the film.
One of the women said that the future actor molested her in a motel bathroom when she was 17 years old. Another said that he threatened to sexually harass her when she was 19. Another claims that she had sex with him when she was 17, which is classified as rape under California law. The fourth heroine said that Leto allegedly called her with explicit proposals when she was 16.
All the women noted that he took advantage of his star status. One of them also said that Leto’s representatives sent her a non-disclosure agreement requiring her to keep quiet about her relationship with him, but she refused to sign it. Another participant in the film said that when she was 14, Leto allegedly ordered a security guard to take her backstage at a music festival, where he made an obscene comment about her breasts during an autograph signing.
Nine of the ten women interviewed for the film spoke publicly for the first time about their relationships with Leto. According to them, these events took place between 2002 and 2016, when the artist was in his 30s and 40s.
The BBC notes that the film crew confirmed the women’s stories through the testimony of friends and relatives who told them about meetings with Leto back then. In some cases, the filmmakers also saw photographs and correspondence that corroborated these stories.
The film also features testimony from two men who worked with Leto’s band for many years. They described how uncomfortable the staff felt about the way the artist interacted with teenage girls, sometimes inviting them backstage into his dressing room or to the house where he was recording.
Representatives of the publication repeatedly tried to contact Jared Leto. Still, he did not respond to the allegations made in the film.
