The Italian government plans to submit a proposal to the United Nations to establish a ceasefire for all wars worldwide, including the Russian-Ukrainian conflict, for the duration of the 2026 Winter Olympics.
The plans for a global ceasefire for the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan-Cortina were announced by Italian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani on October 7, according to Italian news agency ANSA. He noted that Italy and Rome should become “a crossroads of peace, development, and growth.”
The 2026 Winter Olympics will be hosted by the Italian cities of Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo. The competitions will be held from February 6 to 22. The Winter Paralympic Games are scheduled to take place from March 6 to 15.
