The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York has announced a collaboration with Lego as part of the Lego Art series. The new set recreates Claude Monet’s painting “Water Lily Pond,” featuring water lilies.

The set will go on sale on March 4. It consists of 3,179 parts and costs $ 249.99, making it the most expensive in the Lego Art series to date. The series started in 2020 with a copy of Andy Warhol’s silkscreen print depicting Marilyn Monroe. Later, a set inspired by Vincent van Gogh’s “Sunflowers,” created in collaboration with the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam, was added. For Lego, this is the first official work dedicated to Monet.

Lego and the Metropolitan Museum of Art have chosen one of the museum’s most popular works, which would appeal to both art lovers and fans of the designer. The final version took over a year to create. Lego designers traveled to New York to see the original painting in person, and museum staff traveled to Denmark to view various prototypes.

The project aims to make art less formal while also introducing Lego fans to the history of painting. The set comes with a booklet about Monet’s life and work.
