Earlier, we wrote that Emily in Paris star Lily Collins and her husband, director Charlie McDowell, became parents for the first time. They shared the good news on their social networks. The child was born thanks to a surrogate mother.
Along with the congratulations, the couple received a lot of criticism. Some users were outraged that their daughter was not born by Lily herself but by another woman. The newly minted star mom ignored her detractors’ verbal attacks. Still, the actress’s husband reacted and defended the family.
“Thank you for all the kind messages and love. We are delighted and grateful. As for the unkind posts about surrogacy and our path to having a child, it’s normal not to be an expert in surrogacy. It is normal not to know why someone might need a surrogate mother to have a baby. It’s okay not to know the motives of the surrogate, no matter what you assume. And it’s okay to spend less time spewing words of hate into the world, especially about a beautiful girl who brought a lot of love into people’s lives,” he wrote on his social media.
As a reminder, Lily Collins and Charlie McDowell have been together since 2019 and married in 2021.
