Luke Skywalker's Lightsaber to Be Auctioned with a Starting Bid of $1 Million

The Heritage Auctions auction house has announced an auction to be held from July 13 to 17 in the United States, featuring Luke Skywalker’s lightsaber from the film “Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back.” This item, used in the filming of the climactic confrontation scene with Darth Vader, is being offered at auction for the first time, with a starting bid of $1 million.

In addition to the lightsaber, which includes a special-effects mechanism for the character’s severed hand, dozens of other items from iconic films and music history will be on offer. These include the Wicked Witch of the West’s hat from the 1939 movie “The Wizard of Oz” starting at $100,000, Gene Wilder’s brown top hat from the 1971 film “Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory” at $50,000, and the handwritten lyrics of the song “If I Fell,” created by John Lennon in 1964, expecting an initial bid of $500,000.

Also available at the auction will be Sylvester Stallone’s boxing boots from “Rocky III” (starting bid $100,000), two rugs pivotal to the plot of “The Big Lebowski” with starting prices of $15,000 each, Paul Newman’s hockey jersey from the film “Slap Shot,” the necklace from “Bride of Frankenstein,” hoverboards from “Back to the Future Part II,” and the inflatable autopilot “Otto” from the comedy “Airplane!”.

It is noted that previously, the head of the droid C-3PO from “Star Wars” was sold at another auction in Los Angeles for over one million dollars.
