Thailand legalizes same-sex marriage for the first time in Southeast Asia

Thailand’s King Maha Vajiralongkorn signed a law legalizing same-sex marriage on Tuesday, September 24. This is the first such case in Southeast Asia.

This is reported by France 24.

The Marriage Law now uses gender-neutral terms and also grants the right to adopt same-sex couples.

The Thai parliament passed the law this year. It will come into force 120 days after the king signs it, on January 22, 2025.
