Germany’s current Chancellor, Olaf Scholz, has conceded that his Social Democratic Party was defeated in this year’s early parliamentary elections. The Christian Democratic Union (CDU), led by Friedrich Merz, won.

Scholz took responsibility for his party’s defeat and congratulated Friedrich Merz, the head of the Christian Democratic Union (CDU), on his victory. He, in turn, said that the German conservatives would do everything possible to form an effective government as soon as possible.
The turnout in this year’s parliamentary elections reached 84%, a record in Germany since 1990.
