The second part of The Joker, starring Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga, risks becoming the most significant movie disappointment of the year. The film debuted at the US box office and failed at the box office — over the weekend, Joker: Madness for Two” grossed only $40 million, although, according to experts, the film was supposed to gross at least $50-60 million.
In addition, the sequel has already lost the competition with the first part, which grossed twice as much – $96.2 million – in its first weekend.
Although the film grossed $81 million in international territories, bringing the total to $121 million, this is not encouraging, as the film cost $200 million to produce.
The audience needed to appreciate the story of the Joker and Harley Quinn on the comic book portal CimenaScore, which gave the film the worst score for a comic book movie in history.
Deadline reports that experts attribute the film’s failure to the genre, as the musical is considered not very popular among viewers, as well as negative reviews from Venice critics.
