The European Commission (EC) has approved the acquisition of Israeli AI startup Run:ai by the American GPU manufacturer Nvidia Corp.
The deal was approved without additional conditions, the EC said in a statement. The regulator concluded that the agreement does not raise any competition issues.
Nvidia announced the deal in April this year without disclosing the purchase price. The company already cooperates with Run:ai, which has developed a platform for optimizing graphics processing units (GPUs).
The Wall Street Journal reports that the EC’s approval removes only one of the regulatory barriers. In August of this year, the media reported that the US Department of Justice reviewed Nvidia’s deal to buy Run:ai for possible antitrust violations.
The Financial Times reported at the time that the DOJ asked market participants to assess the potential consequences of the deal, particularly whether it could suppress competition in the sector and strengthen Nvidia’s market position.
